Equality and Diversity Policy

LITTLE LUMENS LTD

EQUALITY & DIVERSITY POLICY

Effective Date: 20 February 2026

Review Date: 20 February 2027

Version: 1.1

Little Lumens Ltd (“Little Lumens”, “we”, “our” or “us”) is committed to promoting equality, valuing diversity and creating an inclusive environment in which every child and adult is welcomed, respected and treated fairly.

This policy sets out our commitment to equality and diversity and applies to everyone who interacts with Little Lumens, including children, accompanying adults, customers, staff, helpers and anyone acting on our behalf.

1. Our Commitment

1.1  We believe that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves the opportunity to play, learn and thrive.

1.2  We are committed to providing classes and services that are welcoming and accessible, and to treating everyone with dignity and respect.

1.3  We will not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation of any kind.

2. Legal Framework

2.1  This policy is informed by the Equality Act 2010, which protects people from discrimination on the basis of the following “protected characteristics”:

  • age;

  • disability;

  • gender reassignment;

  • marriage and civil partnership;

  • pregnancy and maternity;

  • race;

  • religion or belief;

  • sex;

  • sexual orientation.

2.2  We are committed to meeting our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 in the way we deliver our services.

3. What We Mean by Discrimination

3.1  For the purposes of this policy:

Direct discrimination is treating someone less favourably because of a protected characteristic.

Indirect discrimination is applying a practice that disadvantages people who share a protected characteristic, without good reason.

Harassment is unwanted behaviour linked to a protected characteristic that violates someone’s dignity or creates a hostile environment.

Victimisation is treating someone unfairly because they have made or supported a complaint about discrimination.

4. How We Put This Into Practice

4.1  In delivering our classes and services, Little Lumens will:

  • welcome children and families of all backgrounds, abilities and circumstances;

  • make reasonable adjustments wherever practicable to support children with additional needs or disabilities, as set out in our Booking Terms & Conditions;

  • use inclusive language and imagery in our communications and materials;

  • design activities that are accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of children;

  • treat all customers, staff and helpers fairly and with respect;

  • challenge discriminatory behaviour, language or attitudes when they arise;

  • offer free “Kindness Spaces” through our Little Lights programme to help families who might not otherwise be able to attend.

5. The Little Lights Programme

5.1  We believe cost should not be a barrier to a child experiencing the joy of our classes. Through our Little Lights programme, Little Lumens offers at least one free place — a “Kindness Space” — in every class and workshop.

5.2  Families can apply for a Kindness Space, and a member of our team will reach out to arrange their booking. Families and businesses can also choose to donate to the Little Lights fund to support additional places.

5.3  The full conditions of the Little Lights programme are set out in our Booking Terms & Conditions.

6. Children with Additional Needs & Disabilities

6.1  Little Lumens welcomes children of all abilities and is committed to inclusion.

6.2  We encourage accompanying adults to share information about a child’s individual needs before attending, so that reasonable adjustments can be considered.

6.3  While we will always endeavour to accommodate individual needs wherever reasonably practicable, we cannot guarantee that every venue, activity or class format will be suitable for every child. Where this is the case, we will work with families to find the best available option.

7. Responsibilities

7.1  Everyone involved with Little Lumens has a part to play in promoting equality and inclusion and is expected to behave in a respectful and non-discriminatory way.

7.2  Staff and helpers are expected to understand and uphold this policy.

7.3  As set out in our Booking Terms & Conditions, behaviour that is abusive, discriminatory or disruptive will not be tolerated, and we reserve the right to ask any individual behaving in this way to leave a session.

8. Raising a Concern

8.1  Anyone who feels they have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment or victimisation in connection with Little Lumens is encouraged to raise it with us.

8.2  Concerns can be raised by contacting us at hello@littlelumens.co.uk and will be taken seriously, treated sensitively and addressed in line with our complaints procedure.

8.3  We will not treat anyone less favourably for raising a genuine concern in good faith.

9. Policy Review

9.1  This policy will be reviewed at least annually, and sooner if there is a change in legislation or the way Little Lumens operates.

9.2  The Director is responsible for keeping this policy up to date.
